30 people killed in Iraq hotel fire
The northern Iraqi city of Suleimaniya is in chaos as a recent fire broke out in a hotel late on Thursday night.
The fire has killed 30 people, including 14 foreigners, hospital officials say. There were at least 40 people wounded at the Soma Hotel during the incident.
Unfortunately, some of them tried to escape by jumping from their windows, and died.
City officials said the fire was likely to have started by an electrical fault, with no indication that it was a result of a terror attack.
“I saw three people jump from their floor to escape the fire, but they were killed when they hit the ground,” a witness told reporters.
“The number killed is 30, among whom there are 14 foreigners,” Rikot Hama Rasheed, the Suleimaniya hospital director told AFP news agency.
“The regional government will contact the embassies of the foreigners who were killed,” he added.
Some of the dead people worked for international oil companies working in the region.
