Sehwag 99 takes India to bonus point win

Virender Sehwag was denied a hundred as India cruised to an empatic 6 wicket win over Sri Lanka in Dambulla. The  match came to a dramatic end when Suraj Randiv bowled a massive no ball with Sehwag requiring just one run to reach his hundred, and India requiring one run for victory. But despite being smashed for a six, the runs did not count towards Sehwags tally.

According to the laws of the game, the match is over when a bowler bowls a no-ball in such a situation. However the ball is added to the batsmens tally, a technical glitch that the MCC will have to look into.  Hundred or not, Sehwag seemed content with his effort, which helped India claim a much needed bonus point.

Earlier in the day Sri Lanka won the toss, and as expected, elected to bat first. However it was the Indian bowlers who did the early damage, reducing Sri Lanka to 4/44. The lower order led by Randiv tried to spark a comeback, but it was not enough as India chipped away with wickets at crucial moments. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 170, Dilshan was the top scorer with 45.

In reply, India made a dreadful start, losing three wickets with just 32 on the board, including ducks to Sharma and Kohli. However, Sehwag proved unstopable, scoring runs at a steady pace. He found support from Dhoni and Raina, who scored 21 not out and 23 respectively. But it was Sehwags day, smashing 99 of the required 171.
