Bangladesh massive fire kills at least 117
There is a general state of mourning in Bangladesh where 117 people were killed in a massive fire.
The deadliest blaze in the history of the country broke out Thursday night when an electrical transformer exploded soon after a rainstorm swept the city. 100 others were injured.
Till now, a total of 117 bodies had been found.
“39 injured people, many in critical condition and on life support, are still being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital,” Muhibul Haque, Dhaka’s Deputy Commissioner said.
Burns unit chief of the state-run hospital, Shamanta Lal Sen, said everybody was in critical condition.
As warehouses are believed to have started the fire, Dhaka’s police chief A.K.M. Shahidul Haque said they are working on evicting chemical shops from the area.
Bangladesh president Zillur Rahman visited the injured and asked the citizens to help the mostly poor victims.
“Please come forward, don’t only wait for the government to respond,” he told reporters.
