Pakistan floods could create political uncertainty

The floods in Pakistan are set to cost more than just lives as millions of people are displaced from their homes. Islamic extremist groups are sheltering people, who the government havent reached out to, and this is an extremely critical issue to many nations including the US.

So far 1600 people have been killed and more than 3 million people have been displaced from their homes.  It is extimated that 1 billion worth of crops have been wiped out, adding to the burden of the country which is already hit with rising prices, high unemployment and corruption. Food is also expected to be is short supply after the floods due to poor yield.

The biggest problem though is that Islamic extremists will be using this opportunity to recruite locals into their establishment, hampering efforts of building a democracy. The US has aready stepped up its effort to fight this threat announcing an extra $76 million in aid.

The situation does not seem to get any better with residents of  Jacobabad in southern Sindh province evacuated yesterday. Meanwhile rain in the northwest could send a new wave of flooding in the coming days.
