Chelsea thrash West Bromwich 6-0, Didier Drogba scores hat-trick
Reigning champions Chelsea seem to have picked up from where they left last season, dominating the opening game of the season on the way to a 6-0 drubbing of West Bromwich Albion. Didier Drogba was the star, scoring a hat-trick of goals.
Florent Malouda netted the opener in the sixth minute on the back of a spilled free kick save from West Brom goalkeeper Scott Carson. Didier Drogba then made the scoreline 2-0 shortly before halftime, and added another 10 minutes into the second half.
Frank Lampard then ensured the rout continued with a goal of his own, before Drogba and Malouda scored another two to cap of a magnificent day.
Newly promoted West Brom have a lot to ponder after this game. They did manage to get one past the Chelsea goalkeeper though, but that goal was denied as Roman Bednar was called offside.
