Russian Orthodox Church: “No Soviet achievement can justify Stalin’s regime”
No former achievement of the Soviet Union, including the victory against Nazi Germany, can justify “crimes” perpetrated by Joseph Stalin, said a spokesman from the Patriarchate of Moscow, according to agency Interfax Ukraine, cited by Mediafax.
The publication had previously asked the Bishop to present the position of the church on the role that Stalin had played in history.
Stalin’s regime “was based on terror, violence, suppression of personality, lies and foundry. This procedure has self distructed when performers have become victims, and his success was temporary,” said father Philipp. ”
“Glorification of atheists and their methods of governance will not and cannot serve as a historical factor strengthening the Russian people.” On the contrary, they separate our societies,” he concluded.
