BP: Gulf New Oil-Containment Cap still leaking oil

BP Gulf containment cap

Despite BP’s efforts to stop the leakage, the new Gulf oil-containment cap is still leaking oil. Plugged the gusher in the Gulf of Mexico, this new cap hasn’t convinced the BP officials of its use yet.

There is also a 48-hour test to be taken, in order to make sure everything will work as planned.

“The longer the tests go, the more confidence we have in it.” said BP Senior Vice President Kent Wells.

The well is said to be fine: “We’re encouraged at this point,” Wells added.BP also measured temperature and seismic activity at the gusher, the executives being concerned with the pressure readings – over 8,000 psi, or pounds per square inch, which indicates the well casing was intact.

“The test was set up to take 48 hours, but there was always the provision that under certain circumstances, the test could be extended. So far, with everything we’ve seen, there’s no evidence that we don’t have integrity.”
