Google scores against Viacom in $1 billion copyright lawsuit
Viacom has just lost the lawsuit worth $1 billion against YouTube they launched around three years ago, on grounds of copyright infringement.
The court has finally dismissed the case, and the results are in favor of YouTube/Google.
Launched in March 2007, the lawsuit was asking for $1 billion for “widespread and willful” infringement of various videos owned by Viacom, such as movies, TV shows and others.
Google stated that the website in question is in full compliance with the requirements set by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and they immediately removes any copyright-infringing material on request by its owner.
When hearing the decision, Viacom vowed to appeal the ruling to the US Court of Appeals.
