‘Google Me’ to take on Facebook?

Rumors are rife that Google is planning to launch a social networking site to take on Facebook – ‘Google Me’. Although there is no official word from Google, it is no secret that the internet giant has plans to expand its reach. Now the question many are asking, are they bold enough to enter facebooks domain?

Facebook is one of the giants of the web and the most widely used social networking site around the world. At times they even get more visitors than Googles search engine. Taking them on will be one of the most ambitious and biggest decisions Google will make.

The rumor was set alight by Digg founder Kevin Rose, who said he has heard it from a ‘credible source.’ This was quickly picked up by other users and was soon relayed to tech blogs and other sites. Rose however is known for spreading rumors.

Just what ‘Google Me’ will be like is anyone’s guess. Google already has social networking platforms like Google Buzz, Google profiles and Orkut. If they do come up with something chances are they will link each other in some way.

All we can do now is wait and watch..
