India Vs Sri Lanka 1st test, day 3 highlights and review
Three late wickets gave Sri Lanka the upper hand at the end of play on the third day of the first test against India. For a change, there was brighter weather at Galle, and play was able to go on for most of the day.
Resuming at 2/256, Sri Lanka would have been hoping to continue scoring freely, however those hopes were dashed as Ishant Sharma and Mithun bowled with conviction to put Sri Lanka in a spot of bother at 6/344. Shrama picked up three wickets in the morning including that of Jayawardene, Paranavitana and Mathews.
But that was the only highlight for India as Herath and Malinga piled on the runs as Sri Lanka declared after scoring 8/520. Herath finished unbeaten on 80, while Malinga scored 64.
Indias innings started badly, losing Gambhir with just 2 runs on the board. Sehwag and Dravid then consolidated, but just as they looked like pressing on for a big score, Dravid was run out as he attempted a sucidal second run.
Tendulkar then joined Sehwag at the crease, but soon found himself out LBW to Murali – It could be the last time for a very long time that the highest wicket taker of all time gets rid of the highest run scorer of all time.
While things were going from bad to worse at one end, Sehwag did not seem to be fazed by all that was happening. He was flawless and continued mounting the runs in typical fashion. India ended day 3 at 3/140, Sehwag and Laxman are unbeaten on 85 and 18 respectively.
