Strauss, Trott take England to victory

England captain Andrew Strauss and Jonathan Trott have helped England win the second test agianst Pakistan at Edgbaston and take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series.

Needing just 118 for victory, England stumbled, losing Alastair Cook very early in the innings. But the pair produced a defiant 111 run stand and took england to a 9 wicket victory in the 37th over.

Both batsmen finished unbeaten on 53. They were probably the most suited batsmen for the conditions, and paced their innings very well.

There was no unnecessary aggression and they looked settled right from the word go. They started slowly and waited for bad balls. When the opportunity came about, the ensured they made full use of it.

Englands bowlers meanwhile have been on top of their game in recent times. They dismissed Pakistan for under 100 runs in consecutive innings – second innings of the first test and the first innings of the second test.

This was yet another humilaition for Pakistan, after they were thrashed in the first test of the series. They have some serious thinking to do and have one practice match before the third test next week. Mohammad Yusuf who was flow into England last week is expected to earn a recall.
