Pakistan Vs England first test – day 3 highlights
Pakistan are in deep trouble at close of play on the third day of the first test agianst England at Nottingham. Having been set 435 for victory, Pakistans top order crumbled as Stuart Broad and James Anderson produced seven good overs to reduce Pakistan to 3/15.
Earlier in the day it day, Pakistan managed to avoid the follow thanks mainly to Umar Gul who scored an unbeaten 65 of 46 balls. However their score of 182 was well shy of Englands total of 354.
Having been given a 172 run advantage in the first innings, England would have been hoping to get off to a solid start. But those hopes were dashed when Strauss was removed by Mohammad Aamer for a duck. The English batsmen never looked settled, and they were soon reduced to 6/98.
At this stage, Pakistan would have thought they were in with a chance of winning this game, but Matt Prior stood tall, scoring an unbeaten 102, and guiding England past 250.
Andrew Strauss then surprised everyone by declaring at 9/262, leaving seven overs to be bowled at the Pakistanis. The gamble worked well, as Broad and Anderson produced a nasty spell, that blew away the Pakistan top order.
