Muttiah Muralitharan bows out on a high, picks up 800 test wickets

Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has farewelled test cricket on a high picking up his 800th test wickets and helping Sri Lanka win the first test against India.

For more than an three hours this morning Murali and the other Sri Lankan bowlers was made to toil as the Indian tail wagged on, taking a lead of 95 in the process. But the best moment was saved to last, as Murali picked up the 10th wicket of the Indian innings taking his overall tally to 800 test wickets.

Murali went into this test needing just 8 wickets to reach the milestone. He picked up 5 wickets in the first innings -including the prized scalp of Sachin tendulkar – as he weaved his magic and brought about the downfall of the Indian batsmen.

The second innings was a lot difficult though, and Murali was made to wait until the last moment. But once he reached the milestone, there was no stopping the celebrations. Everyone ran towards sparking scenes of wild celebrations and Murali was carried out of the groud.

Muralis finishes his test career having played a total of 133 matches and has picked up 800 wickets at an average of 22.72 runs per wickets. He has bowled 7339.5 overs and given away an average of just 2.47 runs per over.He striked once every 55 balls, picked up 5 wickets in an innings 67 time and 10 wickets in a match 22 times.  He is the highest wicket taker of all time
