Bad news for BP - Tropical Storm approaching

Really bad news for British Petrolium – a tropical storm approaching Gulf of Mexico forced BP managers to evacuate deep-sea engineers trying to permanently seal the gusher and to protect the blown-out well.

The National Hurricane Center warned that there is a great chance for the storm system over the Bahamas to become a tropical cyclone and would likely move westward into the Gulf of Mexico.

“We are having to watch the weather very, very carefully now and adjust our plans accordingly,” BP president Kent Wells tells reporters.

BP had also taken some safety measures and placed a special plug inside the well’s casing.

“If we have to evacuate the area … we could be looking at 10 to 14 day gaps in our lines of operation,” warned Thad Allen, the man in charge of the US government response to the Gulf disaster.

The costs almost reached four billion dollars and there are 20 more to be spent by paying victims of the disaster along the US Gulf Coast.

The exact amount of oil leaked into the sea is unknown, but estimated around four million barrels, the disaster being the biggest accidental oil spill ever.
