Judge Baltasar Garzon has been suspended
Yesterday the General Council of Judicial Power (CGPJ) in Spain suspended judge Baltasar Garzon from office, impeached because he wanted to investigate crimes of the franchism amnesty granted, stated a judicial source quoted by Agence France Presse.
This measure comes after the decision taken on Wednesday by a judge of the Supreme Court to order the opening of trial for abuse of power by Judge Garzon, whose date had not been fixed so far.
Provisional Suspension is normally automatic for any magistrate in Spain called to appear before a tribunal for alleged crimes committed in office.
Judge Garzon, aged 54, tried to escape from this humiliating measure, asking to transferred on Tuesday to work for seven months in a consultant position to the International Criminal Court.
