Italian minister resigns over corruption allegations
Claudio Scajola, the minister of economic development presented his resignation a few days ago.
The ex minister, a close person to Silvio Berlusconi, is said to have developed “institutional sensitivity’.
Firstly, because he doesn’t seem to be willing to involve the Government anymore in a personal business which is yet to be clarified.
Then, because he has probably realized that postponing his resignation would have appeared as a defiance of the public opinion, already amazed by the details related to the way in which Scajola bought himself an suite in 2004.
The ex minister will have the chance to defend himself properly and explain the authorities, who have already accused him of bribery, the circumstances in which he bought a 900.000 Euro apartment in the center of Rome.
The money that Scajola seems to have forgotten about are believed to have come from the Anemona Group.
