James Bond’s Aston Martin for sale at auction

For the first time in history, one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 Sean Connery drove in the James Bond movies is going on sale at a London auction in October.

Considered by auctioneers RM Auctions to be “the world’s most famous car,”  the silver Aston Martin is expected to fetch over $5 million.

There are only two of the original Aston Martins that were featured on screen with Sean Connery behind the wheel in “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball.” This is one of them.

The auction will be hosted by U.S. radio broadcaster Jerry Lee, who first bought it for $12,000 in 1969.

With its “rather interesting modifications” as originally designed by Oscar-award-winning special effects expert John Stears, the car is factory-fitted with the full package of operational ‘Q-Branch’ gadgets.

These include machine guns, bullet-proof shield, revolving number plates, tracking device, removable roof panel, oil slick sprayer, nail spreader and smoke screen, all controlled from factory installed toggles and switches hidden in the center arm-rest.
