Smoking ban in Spain stringent by 2011
The Health Minister of Spain, Trinidad Jimenez has declared on Tuesday that severe restrictions will be brought with regards to smoking in public from 2011 in the country. The Minister mentioned that the 2006 law reform that prohibited smoking in workplaces, metro among other places will be forwarded to the Congress and debated upon.
Banning smoking in public has received opposition from the country’s Hotel and Catering Federation that claims that the ban would considerably affect the industry. Jimenez also presented the statistics that showed that more than 44% of Spaniards oppose the ban while a majority of 47% favors the smoking ban.
