Mark Webber: ‘lucky’ to be alive after F1 European Grand Prix crash
Red Bull Formula 1 driver Mark Webber said he was “lucky to be in one piece” after a crash at the European Grand Prix that saw him go airbone. Webber was charging behind Finnish driver Heikki Kovalainen, when Kovalainen unexpectedly braked on a straight run causing Webber to crash into his car at a very high speed. Mark Webbers crash was one of the worst in recent Formula 1 history, but much to everyones surprise the Australian walked out of the car without any visible sign of injuries.
Webber was second on the grid – after losing to Red Bull teamate Sebastian Vettel in qualifying- and made a disastrous start losing seven places in the early part of the race.
The Australian is just thankful that he is ok and is looking forward to the next race in Britain on July 11th. ‘I’m happy I’m OK, and I’ll be ready for Silverstone’ he said. He has’nt given up on the championship either, ‘I got 50 points in eight days not that long ago. There’s a long, long way to go in this game. You never want non finishes, but they’re inevitable in a 19-race championship. It wasn’t a little brush with the wall, a non-finish like that, it was a spectacular incident, and I’m just happy that I’m here.’ he added.
