Ferrari denies using “undercover” advertising of Marlboro
Scuderia in Maranello is part of a great scandal as many voices have condemned the design used by Ferrari cars this season. The cars driven by Alonso and Massa have a bar code design very similar to those on cigarette packets. Therefore the charge that the Scuderia uses subliminal techniques to influence consumers might not be just a hallucinating hypothesis .
Ferrari is sponsored by Philip Morris, the company that makes Marlboro, however, President Luca di Montezemolo strongly rejects any connection.
“I think this case is ridiculous. I think there are bigger problems than a bar code at this time. I do not see how that symbol may persuade people to smoke. It is a waste of time to answer these allegations,” the Scuderia president affirmed.
Advertisements of tobacco products were banned in Formula 1 in 2005.
