INTERNET ADDICTS: At risk for depression

According to research studies, internet addicts especially teenagers are more likely to experienced depression compared to those individuals who uses the internet in a more controlled and subtle way.

The study was published in the Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Archives. Included on the study were 1,041 teenagers from southeastern China. The teenagers were asked to complete a questionnaire about how often they surf the net and they were also assessed for signs of depression and anxiety.

The results shows that more than 940 teenagers used the interned in a normal and controlled manner while on the other hand, 62% are classified to use the internet in a moderately pathological way and at least 2% were classified to be severe pathological users.
