Roger Federer, defeated in Estoril

Roger Federer, world ranking leader, was eliminated in the semifinals of the ATP tournament in Estoril, after loosing the match against Spaniard Albert Montanes  6-2 7-6 (7-5).

Swiss champion, who is six weeks away from beating Pete Sampras’s record of 286 weeks in the top hierarchy of the world, lost on the Portuguese clay in front of  Montanes, after only an hour and a half game.

Montanes will play tomorrow’s final in Estoril with the Portuguese Frederico Gil.

Federer (28 years), who won at Estoril in 2008, is preparing to defend the title won last year at Roland Garros. The French Grand Slam tournament begins on May 23rd.
