Roger Federer wins first match in Wimbledon 2010
After being down by two sets, six-time champion Roger Federer has overcome the deficit and beat Alejandro Falla into his first Wimbledon match. 5-7, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (1), 6-0.
Having reached the tournament final each of the past seven years, Federer barely survived the ceremonial opening match on Centre Court as defending champion.
Federer finished off Falla in 3 hours 18 minutes, with a forehand winner that made him look more relieved than excited.
“I definitely got very lucky today out there,” Federer said afterward in a television interview.
“I lost many matches this year that I should have won. This is one I should have lost.”
