Rafael Nadal wins 5th Rome Masters title
World number three, Rafael Nadal, won the 17th tournament in the ATP Masters Tour 1000, surpassing Federer and getting as far as Andre Agassi, the legendary American tennis player ever got.
Nadal won the tournament in Rome, yesterday, overcoming itself during the last act against David Ferrer, in a fantastic row of 7-5, 6-2 interrupted several times by the annoying rain.
“I didn’t play at the level I did in Monte Carlo, but I’m still winning and that’s the important thing,” Nadal said. “I’m probably more happy winning without playing (my) best. It was more of a mental thing.”
Faced with an opponent who had a fantastic week – wins the Murray and Verdasco Tsonga mathches – Nadal, however, displayed the samealien game and won the 5th tournament at Foro Italico.
“It’s important to have the motivation to want to keep improving. That’s the main thing,” Nadal said.
Only 23 years Rafa reaches a fantastic record, that “The Punisher” had only achieved at 34 years old after the 2004 tournament in Cincinnati.
