What to avoid

While there are some nutritional elements that are absolutely essential, there are somefood items that must be kept at bay when fasting. Apart from undoing the whole motive ofcleansing, some food items might react adversely to cause long-term harm to the body. One of the first myths that need to be busted is that a mixture of honey, lemon and warmwater is not as beneficial for the body as it is believed to be. When honey mixed with warmwater is consumed, it causes dehydration. Moreover, the benefits of lemon are undone aswarm water destroys the antioxidants in lemons. Another mistake very commonly made isconsumption of fruits that have been cut for a long time, especially for rituals. This is highlyunhygienic and harmful. Exclusion of water from the diet can be detrimental to the heath. Itcan lead to acidity in the short run and gall bladder stones in the long run, too. Eating friedfood and carbohydrates right after breaking a fast is a strict no-no. The fatty matter mixeswith the bile secretions to create crystals which, in the long run, can result in acidity. Fasting as a practice should be out of bounds for individuals suffering from hypoglycemia, low bloodpressure, anemia, anorexia, gastric ulcers or any other weakness. Children below 12 yearsof age should be forbidden from the practice.
