Workout or run miles regularly, then be cautious when increasing the workout or mileage or increasing it to a length which the foot may not be able to adopt in short passage of time which may further lead to shin splints. The rule is to increment 10% in the mileage weekly. In fact, over-training might also lead to this injury so be careful.

The human body is not accustomed of the hectic schedule of running and exercising every single day and bearing workload. So better is to take breaks and rest a day or even two but be sure the passage do not exceed every different week, it should be same and regular moreover.

This lessens the risk of shin splints. Run on softer surfaces and that too slow than fast running on the concrete area.

Actually concrete area is a hard surface and renders little of the shock absorption; therefore roads made of asphalt are lot better and the most resilient being the cinder tracks.
