Service for Love Parade victims

A memorial service was held to remember the victims of the last week’s Love Parade in Germany. Flags across Germany flew at half-mast to remember the 500 people who were injured during a mass panic at the event in the western city of Duisburg.

Candle for each person who died were lit at the Love Parade site by the rescue workers. These were later carried to the tunnel where the festival-goers were killed.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel cut short her summer holiday to attend the memorial service. It was held at the Salvator Church in Duisburg. Friends and relatives of those killed at the Love Parade festival attended the service.
