Avoiding Coping With Stress Can Make Addicts Succumb To Cravings
A recent study reveals that people recovering from drug addiction succumb easily to cravings if they avoid coping with stress.
According to Harrington Cleveland, associate professor of human development, Penn State University (PSU), the goal of the study was to predict the variation in substance craving in a person as cravings are a strong predictor of relapse.
Individuals choose either to avoid stress or to work their way through it. This behavior can be used to predict whether they would experience cravings when faced with stress.
Cleveland explains that addicts who are better at coping with stress have a better chance of staying in recovery.
