Greece could sue the U.S. banks
Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou stated today that he does not exclude legal action against U.S. banks, which “have a great responsibility for the crisis in Greece, announced Monday.
He made this statement in an interview for the CNN television channel. Asked whether Greece was the victim of U.S. commercial banks, Papandreou replied: “Yes, I think the financial sector has a great responsibility.”
The Prime Minister also said that a parliamentary committee in Greece is about to investigate the responsibility of certain U.S. banks causing the crisis in the country.
The Greek Parliament has been investigating for several months the operations undergone in 2000 by Greek authorities, with U.S. bank Goldman Sachs, which allowed Greece to hide its debt and financial situation.
