India angry over visa refusal, warns Canada of retaliation
India is outraged and has alleged discrimination as Canada refused visas to Indian officers.
The latest case is of an Intelligence Bureau officer who has been denied a visa, on the ground that he was associated with a spy agency and was issued an emergency certificate instead.
The foreign secretary, Nirupama Rao said that they are taking this matter very seriously.
They have stated that they know that Canada has the highest regard for India’s democratic institutions and processes but even then, they want to look up into the matter.
The MEA summoned the Canadian High Commissioner for this matter.
