Barack Obama: “I’ll stand with the people of the Gulf Coast”

President Barack Obama has made public his vows of supporting people of the Gulf Coast as they fight to recover from the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

“These folks work hard. They meet their responsibilities. But now because of a manmade catastrophe, one that’s not their fault and that’s beyond their control, their lives have been thrown into turmoil.” Obama said.

On what concerns British Petroleum, they work on a desperate final attempt to contain the gusher by capping it and trying to siphon off some of the crude.

Till now, at least 22 million gallons of crude were reported to have been emptied by the rig into the Gulf of Mexico.

“We will fight alongside them, until the awful damage that has been done is reversed, people are back on their feet, and the great natural bounty of the Gulf Coast is restored,” Obama said, on his third visit to the Gulf.

“What I don’t want to hear is, when they’re spending that kind of money on their shareholders and spending that kind of money on TV advertising, that they’re nickel-and-diming fishermen or small businesses here in the Gulf who are having a hard time,” same Obama told reporters in Louisiana.
