Child survives the air craft tragedy in Libya
Miracle at the airport in Tripoli. A boy of eight years from Netherlands is the only passenger who escaped safely after the plane with 104 people on board crashed on the airport in Libya’s capital, when landing, AFP reported. Among the victims are 61 Dutch.
According to BBC, British citizens might have aboard as well.
The eight year old child was the sole survivor, confirmed the Libyan Minister of Transport, quoted by France Presse Agence. His life is in danger and he was hospitalized, said the official.
The boy was traveling with his parents and his 11 year old sister, the Dutch newspaper Telegraaf notes, cited by AFP.
The accident happened at 6.00 local time. The aircraft belonging to the Libyan company Afriqiyaha exploded on landing ,one meter away from the runway, the company representatives confirmed.
The plane, an Airbus 330-200, was coming from Johannesburg, South Africa.
Dozens of ambulances and rescue teams were mobilized to the disaster site.
The causes of this misfortune are yet unknown. The weather was good when the plane was preparing to land. Authorities exclude the hypothesis of a terrorist attack.
