Egyptian painting fetches record 2.43 million dollars
A famous Mahmud Said painting was sold at an auction organized in Dubai for about 2,43 million $, a record price for an Arabian piece of art.
It is therefore registered as the most expensive canvas ever sold in an Arabian auction.
The painting- Les Chadoufs, representing Egyptian peasents carring water from the Nile, had the starting price of 150,000 $, according to Christie Auction House.
The identity of the purchaiser has not been made public so far.
The painting belonged to the ex mayor of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia- Mohamed Said al-Fares.
25 pieces, part of his private collection have been auctioned at Chistie’s, the total sale amount reaching 8,7 million $.
