India to Crack Down on Maoist after Rail Disaster
Now is the time for the Indian government to adopt a tougher, nationwide response to a growing Maoist insurgency. A rail disaster killed at least 65 people in north east India.
The authorities say that sabotage was responsible for the derailment of a packed passenger train but the reports suggest that the train was derailed by a bomb.
A goods train then stranded the four of the derailed carriages. More than 100 people have injured and the air force helicopters are used to fly them to the hospitals.
Even before the crash, West Bengal was on a state of red alert amid the rumors that the Maoists were gathering explosives.
