The most expensive painting
The opera “Nude on the table sculpture” won Tuesday night over 106 million dollars at an auction held in New York, setting a new record in terms of price a work of art.
The painting, a portrait of the artist’s mistress, Marie-Therese Walter, was part of a large collection gathered by Americans Frances and Sidney Brody. The two Americans had purchased it in the 50s from painter’s dealers .
According to Reuters, more than six people bid for Picasso’s 1932 work, and the offer of the new owner came via telephone.
The previous record was held by Alberto Giacometti’s sculpture “Man on the move 1 ” sold at the beginning of this year for 104.3 million euros.
