Bangkok: Protestors demand UN aid
Thai protesters in Bangkok today demanded negotiations under UN auspices, after three days of violence during which 29 people died, AFP announced.
Thousands of people crowded the streets in Bangkok to demand the resignation of the Prime Minister. Protests continue in Thailand’s capital in mid-March.
“We urge talks with the United Nations mediator,” said Kokaew Pikulthong, a leader.
“We urge the government to stop shooting and to withdraw its” red shirt ” troops, which occupied the block neighborhood in early April, said Pikulthong.
Instead, the authorities rejected the proposal. “No government shall authorize an organization’s initervention in the internal affairs,” says Panitan Wattanayagorn, the government spokesman.
Thursday triggered violence has caused so far 29 deaths, all civilians. The number of deceased people during the political crisis which began in mid-March has reached 59 people.
