Mobile Companies Raided Over ‘Price Fixing’

Five British mobile phone companies have been raided by EC inspectors over suspicions of price fixing for “roaming” call made to mobile phones.

The Commission said the raids were part of investigation launched in January 2000 into prices of “mobile roaming.

The commission said the inquiry collected information on the prices and cost levels for all EU mobile operators.

Serious competition concerns have been found regarding the practices for mobile roaming which warrant further investigation in UK and Germany.

If telecoms companies are found to be guilty of charging artificially high prices, they could be punished.
