Making Rain Clouds With Lasers

Rain clouds could be created using a new ecologic technology .

Kasparian’s team of researchers have recently discovered that pointing lasers towards the sky can produce rain drops.

Experts in this field have been trying to create artificial rain clouds since 1940, but they have hardly managed this so far.

The most popular method – that of scattering silver particles towards the sky- relied on the fact that rain drops needed something that would serve them as condensation surfaces such as a mirror, a thread of dust or pollen from the atmosphere.

The newly discovered method uses a older idea, that of the physicist Charles Wilson who invented a machine that could produce fog.

Infrared laser was fired in a “Wilson room”(“a cloud space”).At first 50 microns diameter drops appeared. Those drop  developed to 80 microns in only 3 seconds.

Kasparian repeated the experiment on the sky above Berlin but had to use a second, more powerful laser as it was impossible for him to see the clouds.

Kasparian thinks laser can produce rain. If this proves true, the implications on agriculture and other economic sectors are huge.
