Corrupt officials in Russia will have their property seized

Russian Presidency intends to toughen penalties for acts of corruption,  proposing confiscation of corrupt officials’ assets.

According to the newspaper “Vedemosti, the head of the Russian Presidential Chancellery, Sergei Narişkin, asked the Ministry of Justice and other decision-making structures to develop as soon as possible a new set of anticorruption measures.

Narişkin urged confiscation of property for any corruption acts and  wants to adopt a law prohibiting officials to accept gifts.

For some time, Russia holds a special electronic data base containing information about citizens’ properties to help authorities fight against this scourge “that threatens the security of the country”, according to general deputy prosecutor, Aleksander Buksman.
