Government to cancel fixed retirement at 65‎

The government of United Kingdom is planning to scrap the default retirement age from October 2011.

So under this new proposal all the employers would not be allowed to dismiss staff because they reached the age of 65.

Currently an employer can force an employee o retire at the age of 65 without paying any financial compensation but to this new proposal no forced retirement notices could be issued, it will be left to the employee decision whether or not to terminate employment.

This new act will be active from April 2011 – six months before the October change.

But to this the employer should hold a meeting with the staff member to discuss plans at least six months before their age of 65.
