13 American Civilians to receive an award from Pres. Obama
George J. Weiss Jr after his retirement as a utility repairman with Ford Motor Corporation, he started an all-volunteer rifle squad three decades ago.
The mission of the squad is to provide military honors at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis to deceased veterans.
The squad started when Mr Weiss friend died and the Veterans of Foreign Wars could not provide him with military honors.
The all volunteer rifle squad has already delivered their final salute for the 56,400 military burials.
Today, President Obama will give a Presidential Citizens Award to Mr. Weiss and 12 other individuals. The Award is considered to be the second highest award and honor to be given to an American Individual.
