Tests for Chemotherapeutic Drug resistance

Researchers from Japan are designing some tests to be able to identify patients who will be likely to be resistant to a drug named IMATINIB that is used for treating leukemia, a type of cancer that attacks our Red Blood cells.

The drug, also known by the brand name Gleevec is manufactured by the company Novartis used to treat Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. Its mechanism of action is to block the cancer cells instead of killing it.

The resistance of the drug Imatinib usually occurs in cases of relapse patients.
The tests are to determine and somehow help medical professionals on knowing whether or not the patient is resistant to the drug.
