NASA tests successfully a new system

Filed under: America — AnnabelleLion @ 9:37 pm

The fight for the  conquest of space has become a little more secure after an emergency ejection new system for rescuing astronauts was successfully tested by NASA, informs AFP, quoting a statement of the American space agency.

This system allows the ejection capsule containing the astronauts in case of malfunction of the carrier rocket during ascent to orbit or fire on the pad before launch.

“This system is more advanced in terms of capacity and technology than all the emergency eject mechanisms designed by NASA in the past,” said Doug Cooke, the chief of NASA exploration missions.

The tested mechanism launched the Orion capsule with a speed of 720 km / h in 2.5 seconds at an altitude of 2,000 meters. The capsule landed smoothly with parachute help. The test lasted 135 seconds and all was done in the New Mexico desert.

Orion capsule is the only element of the Constellation program which was not canceled by President Barack Obama.
