Recession prompts rise in holidaying with the in-laws

For many, a week with the in-laws is the complete opposite of a relaxing break where huge rows, awkward silences, and embarrassing moments are the toppers in the list.

But things are changing since the recession is changing that. British families have tended to begun holidaying with their extended families, in order to save money.

An increasing number of holidaymakers of three generations are travelling together – children, parents and grandparents so that they get better-value deals and the added bonus of free babysitting.

A latest survey showed that 46 per cent of its primarily British customers were now travelling with their extended family, up from 8 per cent in 2009.
