England Vs Pakistan 4th test, day 1 highlights
Rain played spoils for most of first day at Lord’s, putting off what would have been an interesting contest. Pakistan went into the game on the back of a win in the last game and would have been hoping for a similar performance. England on the other hand would have liked to win another before the much awaited Ashes contest later this year.
After a long delay in the morning, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first. They made disciplined start and ensured the English openers remained in check.
But just when it looked like the English batsmen would start to dominate, Mohammad Asif produced a beauty in the 12th over to get rid of Andrew Strauss. It was a full swinging delivery, that jagged back at the last moment to uproot Strauss’ leg stump.
However it was the wheather that had the final say. It got gloomy just after the dismissal of Strauss, and the umpires were quick to take the players off the field the very next over. The rain returned shortly after and no more play was possible.
England finished at 1/39 at stumps. Cook is unbeaten on 10, while Trott has 8 to his name. Strauss was the only man dismissed for 13. Mohammad Asif finished the day with figures of 1/17 from 6 overs.
