Lords test hit by match fixing investigation
A man has been arrested by police in relation to a spot-fixing allegation in the ongoing test between England and Pakistan at Lords.
It is alleged that Mazher Majeed accepted a large sum of money to fix certain moments in the match involving Pakistan’s new ball bowlers. They included a no-ball from Mohammad Amir of the first ball of the third over and a no-ball from Asif of the last ball of the tenth over.
Pakistan captain Salman Butt, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and three other players are also believed to be involved. Police reportedly visited the team hotel last night and some players were questioned in this regard.
ICC is also taking the issue seriously and officials from the ICC’s Anti-Corruption will be arriving in London shortly. Meanwhile the fourth days play is expected to continue as scheduled.
Pakistan had an eventful day yesterday losing a total of 14 wickets as they stare down the barrel of an innings defeat. They were dismissed for 74 in the first innings and then lost four wickets for 41 in the second innings.
