Asia Cup 2010 match highlights and reviews | India Vs Sri Lanka, India Vs Pakistan
The Asia Cup 2010 just concluded and India were crowned champions this time breaking Sri Lankas recent dominance. There were some thrilling matches, especially those invloving Pakistan, but there was hardly a crowd to match these thrilling performances.
Match 1: Sri Lanka v Pakistan
A much anticipated game for the Pakistanis. New captain and the return of Shoaib Akthar and Shoaib Malik from injury and suspension respectively. Akthar was back with a bang picking up 3/41 and helping restrict Sri Lanka to 242, Jayawardene again was the rock of the Sri Lankan middle order scoring a half century.
Chasing 243 for victory, Pakistan found themselves in deep trouble at 4/32. However captain Afridi came to the fore and hit a brilliant 109 of just 76 balls, but it was not enough for Pakistan.
Match 2: Bangladesh v India
Bangladesh openers Tamin Iqbal and Imrul Kayes got off to a flying start, but the middle order once again let them down. At one stage they were 1/81, but collapsed and were bowled out for 167. Sehwag picked up 4 wickets giving away just 6 runs.
Indias reply was shaky with Sehwag, Kohli and Sharma getting out cheaply. Howeve Gambhir and Dhoni dugg in and took India to victory with 116 balls to spare.
Match 3: Sri Lanka v Bangladesh
Sri Lankan batsmen were all over the Bangladesh bowlers right from the word go. Dilshan lead the charge with 71 from 51 balls, all other batsmen also made solid contributions. Sri Lanka made 4/312.
Tamim Iqbal was once again the shining light for Bangladesh. he was the only batsmen who went past 40. Bangladesh were all out for 186.
Match 4: India v Pakistan
Hyped as the game to watch in the Asia Cup 2010, and didnt they deliver. Pakistan batted first and were off to a solid start led by opener Salman Butt. Some inspirational bowling towards the end kept pakistan in check and they settled for a socre of 267
Gambhir and Dhoni were once again the saviours for India keeping the run rate ticking along after some early blows. Sharma and Raina also contributed, but it was Harbhajan Singh whose six of the second last ball of the match sealed the game and dumped Pakistan out of the Asia Cup 2010.
Match 5: Bangladesh v Pakistan
Playing for pride, Pakistan were off to a qucik start, but it was Afridi who put the final nail in the coffin. He scored 124 of just 60 balls during an 75 minutes of madness. His knock included 17 fours and 4 sixes amd took Pakistan to 7/385.
A well paced 97 from Siddique was not enough for Bangladesh as they were handed their third loss of the tournament. They finished with 5/246, Kayes had the scored best score of 66.
Match 6: Sri Lanka v India
Having made it to the finals, this was a dress rehearsal for both the teams and a chance to gain a mental edge. The Indian top order made a solid start and at one stage were 4/189. But Maharoof had other plans, sinking India with a 5 wicket haul including a hat-trick. India finished with 209, Sharma was the top scorer with 69, Dhoni made 41.
In reply, Sri Lanka did not have any trouble. Sangakkara scored 73 to take SL to victory in just 37.2 overs.
Final: Sri Lanka v India
India made a good start, but struggled towards the end. They had 5/217 on the board at the end of the 40th over, but managed to scamper to 268 from 50 overs. Sri Lankan bolwers kept it tight, so tight that India did not manage a single boundry in the last 5 overs!
Sri Lankas hopes of securing the Asia Cup for the 4th time were blown away by Ashish Nehra who three wickets helped reduce SL to 5/51. With all the big names gone, SL were dismissed for 187.
