Watch Chile vs Spain World Cup 2010 Preview
Today is the final day of the opening round matches of FIFA World Cup 2010, due to be played at 2:30pm EST (20:30) with Chile vs Spain in Tshwane and Switzerland vs Honduras in Mangaung from the Group H bracket.
On one hand, Chile leads their Group, so Spain coach La Roja must win this match to secure their seat to the second stage, but on the other hand, Chile has lost six times and drew once in their seven previous meetings.
Chile can also advance with a draw vs Spain but coach Marcelo Bielsa is not willing to take the risks:
“A draw is not good enough,” Bielsa said this week.
“Playing for a draw is more complicated for me than trying to win.”
Spain is not used to playing in “must-win” situations to start finals and know that they cannot afford anything less:
“The important thing is to move on to the knockout stage,” said Sergio Ramos this week.
“They [Chile] have fast players on the counter. They will close spaces and won’t make it easy for us.”
