Europe’s airlines and airports reopened after volcanic ash
Volcanic ash from Iceland raises no major problems for air traffic today. All airports are open, but a column of ash above the Atlantic determined all transatlantic flights to alter their trajectory, Eurocontrol announced, according to AFP.
There are 500 flights less than those 28 500 normally held by the old continent.
“The cloud of ash dispersed during the night over continental Europe,” Eurocontrol said.
Towards afternoon, the Atlantic ash cloud moved north-east of the Iberian Peninsula.
Yesterday, 1,500 flights were canceled because of the ash cloud from Iceland. Airports in Portugal, Spain, Italy, southern Germany and Austria canceled their flights.
Volcanic ash could have damaged many aircraft engines.
