Drugs hidden in a convent
Italian police uncovered a drug smuggling ring that used a monastery near Milan to enter cocaine in the country, the BBC announces.
Most drugs come from South American countries.
Authorities say the keeper of the monastery, originally from South America, organized trips for religious purposes in which smugglers gave pilgrims cocaine that they hid in the textbooks.
The nuns of the abbey did not know anything about what was happening.
Police arrested 33 suspects and seized 30 kilograms of cocaine. Authorities announced that the mafia and Colombian cartels are behind the operation.
From the monastery, drugs were taken to a house near Bergamo, where cocaine was processed and distributed in other major cities.
